The 150th running of the Kentucky Derby

Plan Your Kentucky Derby Party Today

Traditions run deep in Kentucky.  This year we will celebrate the 150th Kentucky Derby, aka “The Run for The Roses”.  On the first Saturday in May each year the whole nation is tuned in to Kentucky Derby.  As I am writing, the contenders list is being completed, studied and bets are being planned.  At the same time a magical atmosphere is being created as hats are being decorated and derby watching parties are being planned.

Back to traditions, the horse race sets the stage, but the ladies all decked out in spring dresses with beautiful hats and the men in pinned striped or sear sucker suites draw a nation together for an hour or so of Kentucky hospitality.  Every party must have some good treats to enjoy.  Broadbent traditional country ham served on biscuits or Sister Shubert Rolls along with Kerns Kitchen Kentucky Derby Pies™ will put you in the winners’ circle.  Check out all of our Derby treats on our website at Traditional Kentucky Derby Party Foods for Sale |Kentucky Derby Pies for sale (broadbenthams.com).

Broadbent B & B Foods, have been producing Old Fashioned Country Hams since 1909. A Truly American Food that has been on this continent since colonial days, it was a staple that sustained many of our first settlers as they moved west. The climate had to be just right to cure hams in the days before electricity, and Kentucky's climate fit the bill! Therefore, the Broadbent family brought those traditions with them and used them to dry cure and preserve their pork. Today, we are still dry curing Country Ham, Bacon, and Sausage like our forefathers did. In modern cuisine, country ham is far from a Staple. It is found on the menus of ritzy restaurants across The United States. While it is still, in fact, Country Ham, it is often cut paper thin, and labelled as Prosciutto; which is used as the center piece for many Charcuterie Boards.
