Evolution from “MOM & POP Business Owners” to “Grandma & Grandpa” Business Owners!

It’s all about the aging process here at Broadbent’s.  We age our Country Ham 6 to 18 months.  It’s been twenty years since Ronny and I purchased Broadbent’s.  The sale was final on April 1, 1999.  So while our hams have been aging, we’ve aged as well.  That’s right; it’s been 20 years since we began our lives as Broadbent’s Mom & Pop Business owners.  With two children of our own at the time, we certainly fit the bill!

At the time of purchase, we knew the old-fashioned Country Ham, Bacon and Sausage Broadbent’s produced would have a special place in hearts and pantries here in Kentucky. We quickly found out, however, that the company was more than just a small town country pork shop; folks all across the United States were enjoying the hickory smoked flavor of Broadbent’s. It was a legacy started by the Broadbent Family, that we discovered had become a part of family traditions all across America.  The recipes they used to produce their Award-Winning Dry Cured Meats were a definite driving force that cemented that legacy, and allowed us a solid product line and customer base to begin this journey.  The products made from their family recipes in 1909 were as close to perfection as we can come.  So rather than try to “Fix what ain’t broke” we still use them today!

As they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun.”, and it seems like only yesterday when those secret recipes were passed along to us.  It is a fact of life that everyone and everything has to grow and evolve. So, we have.  Our business has grown to include a variety of flavors of Bacon and Sausage. Not to mention the addition of a Heritage Breed Country Ham.  Like our business and the product line we offer, our family has grown as well!  We no longer consider ourselves Mom and Pop… Because, now thanks to three precious grandchildren, we’re proud to say we are Grandma and Grandpa Business Owners!  Aging is something we probably haven’t done quite as well as our hams. But, the good Lord willing, we plan to be around to continue the aging process for a few more years.  Thank YOU for being a part of the last 20 years of our lives. We look forward to serving you and yours for generations to come.

Broadbent B & B Foods, have been producing Old Fashioned Country Hams since 1909. A Truly American Food that has been on this continent since colonial days, it was a staple that sustained many of our first settlers as they moved west. The climate had to be just right to cure hams in the days before electricity, and Kentucky's climate fit the bill! Therefore, the Broadbent family brought those traditions with them and used them to dry cure and preserve their pork. Today, we are still dry curing Country Ham, Bacon, and Sausage like our forefathers did. In modern cuisine, country ham is far from a Staple. It is found on the menus of ritzy restaurants across The United States. While it is still, in fact, Country Ham, it is often cut paper thin, and labelled as Prosciutto; which is used as the center piece for many Charcuterie Boards.
