Dad Deserves It.

Let’s face it. This has been a weird year so far. With all of the uncertainty in the world, things can look dark. But, as the adage goes- “It is always darkest, just before dawn.”  People may feel disconnected from their friends, coworkers, and extended family; but the nuclear family seems to be an exception.

I cannot tell you how many people I have heard say something to the effect of “I can’t remember the last time my family all sat down and ate at the dinner table before the quarantine started.” or “I have spent more time with my kids/parents/siblings/etc. in the past 3 months, than in the past 3 years.” As unfortunate as the circumstances surrounding these statements may be, I don’t know a soul that would trade the connections that have been re-forged for anything.

As we move through the month of June, Father’s day is drawing nearer and nearer. The one day specifically created to show dear ol’ dad how thankful we are for his presence and guiding hand over the years. Whether it was how to remove a splinter, how to change a tire, a pep talk after a bad breakup, we all have our fondest memories of when they really put the “care” in caregiver.

No matter if your Dad is a father as the term is defined, or someone that stepped in to fill those shoes; they deserve a huge thank you. That being said, dads are notoriously difficult to buy for. What do you get the person that has everything?

How about a new tradition? Broadbent’s Country Ham, Bacon, and Sausage are more than just pork. The products that we sell are the product of a legacy spanning over a century. We start with quality sourced, American raised, and processed hogs. The Ham and Bacon that we offer, is hand-rubbed with a mixture of salt, sugar, and other secret ingredients before being slowly smoked with hardwood for a taste that is as old-school as it gets. Something, your old man will be sure to appreciate.

Our Grandma Broadbent’s Smoked Country Pork Sausage is the oldest recipe that we use, dating back to 1909! Because not everybody’s taste buds grow in the same pattern, we also developed hotter and milder versions of the sausage! All three varieties are smoked in the cloth sacks the same way they have been since the beginning. If you ever took something apart as a kid, chances are pop said something along the lines of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”, and we couldn’t agree more…

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads out there!

From our family’s smokehouse, to your family’s table.

Broadbent B & B Foods, have been producing Old Fashioned Country Hams since 1909. A Truly American Food that has been on this continent since colonial days, it was a staple that sustained many of our first settlers as they moved west. The climate had to be just right to cure hams in the days before electricity, and Kentucky's climate fit the bill! Therefore, the Broadbent family brought those traditions with them and used them to dry cure and preserve their pork. Today, we are still dry curing Country Ham, Bacon, and Sausage like our forefathers did. In modern cuisine, country ham is far from a Staple. It is found on the menus of ritzy restaurants across The United States. While it is still, in fact, Country Ham, it is often cut paper thin, and labelled as Prosciutto; which is used as the center piece for many Charcuterie Boards.
