Recently, we decided to play with the idea of having custom merchandise printed to sell here at the Kuttawa market. Over the course of the discussion, we thought it could be fun to try and come up with some taglines. Nothing overly complicated, just one-liners and quips that would be in line with what we do here at Broadbent’s. Looking back on the past 20 years, the first thought I had, is that it has flown by.  In the fall of 1999, Broadbent’s 33rd catalog went out in the mail. However, as the new owner of Broadbent’s, it was my very first catalog.  That year was quite an adventure.  The printer of the catalog, kept all photography and files at his office.  So I contacted him for direction…  To my dismay, I learned that he was under the impression we would no longer be printing a catalog,...

Here, in beautiful western Kentucky, we are now firmly in the middle of what we are hoping is Winter's last hoorah (Y'all say a prayer for us). The snow and ice that we saw this weekend aren't uncommon for our area this time of year, so we have learned to prepare. Just like a squirrel with his acorns, we stash away goodies to tide us over until the thaw. Whether your mornings are crisp, or dreary, there is no better way to start a cold day than with...

The countdown to Christmas is on, with only 2 weeks to go getting organized for the big Christmas dinner is one of the top priorities. Now many American’s repeat several elements of their Thanksgiving Dinner for Christmas. We wanted to offer four suggestions that likely didn’t make your Turkey-Day table.  Each has a southern influence and easily serve large groups. As a note, these dishes state to use a Dutch oven. When it comes to food, sometimes a nontraditional pairing can bring out the best of separate flavors. Experimenting in the kitchen, whether it is trying something new and fanciful for date night or letting children blend their favorites can bring fun to the kitchen. We encourage any level of cook to look for ways to use common and familiar foods together to create something different. The five primary flavors are Sweet, Sour, Bitter, Salty and Savory. If you start by selecting two foods from different categories, you can begin...
