#1 Go potluck-style
Keep your BBQ fun and light by asking everyone to bring a side dish, dessert or drinks.
Often creating an event on Facebook or other social media platforms can keep everyone informed on who is bringing what, any changes to the party, and allow them to estimate the number of guests attending. This could even be a great way to ask or post about any known allergies such as nuts.
#2 Pick Classics but with a Twist
BBQs can be popular during the summer but eating the exact same foods over and over again can get old. Try checking out our Pinterest page for inspiration, or try some these favorites below.
Layer together chunks of sweet potato and thick pieces of Broadbent’s premium Maplewood Smoked Bacon on skewers and season. These are a delicious alternative and bake for only 30 minutes. They look just fabulous next to all the grilled items and you won’t have to lose another casserole dish.

Add zip to your traditional bakes beans by cooking them in our Hickory Smoked BBQ Sauce and adding thick slices of our premium Hickory Smoked Bacon. No need to cook these around a camp fire but they will easily taste slow cooked with a heavenly hickory taste.
The Classic American Hamburger
Heat up these classics with the help of our Spicy Mayo, Sweet & Tangy Mustard, Smoked Pepper Bacon, and Sweet Dillies. Each on their own will of course add a new element to your backyard burgers but why not try them all and give your burgers a real zing.
*Try adding a tasting bar to your burger stations so guests can try various flavors before making their burger creations.

#3 Keep Set Up Simple
Outdoor BBQs can be as simple as you want them to be. Try sitting at a picnic table or eating on large table clothes on the ground, this can be great especially if the party is larger. To decorate try adding some form of lighting whether it be Tiki Torches or twinkly lights and maybe a simple table decoration.
*Bonus points if the table décor has function as well as fashion.
#4 Play DJ
Create a simple play list or pick the perfect station that will have the summer jams rolling out. A great conversation starter is always, “I love this song!”
#5 Break out the Yard Games
All ages can get in on summer fun with outdoor games. Try traditional games like croquet, horseshoes, corn hole. Offer side walk chalk, bubbles, squirt guns, nerf guns for children. For the more adventurous try outdoor Twister, lawn bowling, back yard tic-tac-toe and many more.
BBQs don’t have to be all about the food. By offering guests a fun and entertaining atmosphere it will make your BBQ stand out in their memories. Offering more activities than eating can also lower the stress of meeting new people. The most important thing is to just get out there and have some fun.
